1. Summary
- No account required. You can use ThemeTeller without signing up or logging in.
- Public pages only. We fetch the same storefront pages a regular visitor could view in a browser.
- Recent checks live in your browser. The visible history shown on the page is stored locally and can be cleared from there.
- No selling of personal data. We do not sell or rent your information to third parties.
2. Information we process
Storefront URLs you submit
When you submit a URL to the detector, that URL is sent to our server so we can fetch the page and analyse public signals (such as HTML, headers, and asset paths). URLs may appear in transient logs for debugging, abuse prevention, and rate-limiting, and are discarded on a rolling basis.
Technical request data
Like most web services, our hosting provider may automatically log basic technical information about each request, including IP address, user agent, referrer, and timestamp. This information is used to operate the service, prevent abuse, and diagnose issues.
Analytics
We use privacy-friendly product analytics (for example, Vercel Analytics) to understand which pages are viewed and how the detector is used in aggregate. These analytics do not require cookies and are designed to avoid building a cross-site profile of you.
Locally stored data
The recent detections shown to you on the page are stored in your browser (for example, in localStorage or session storage) so the list is convenient between visits on the same device. This data stays on your device and can be cleared at any time, either by clearing it from the page itself or by clearing your browser storage.
3. What we do not collect
- We do not require, store, or process account credentials.
- We do not attempt to fetch private, password-protected, or paywalled content.
- We do not run advertising trackers or sell behavioural data to advertisers.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
4. How we use information
We use the limited information described above to:
- Operate the detector and return results to you.
- Maintain reliability, prevent abuse, and apply rate limits where necessary.
- Understand aggregate usage so we can improve the product and the documentation around it.
- Comply with legal obligations where they apply.
5. Sharing and service providers
We rely on a small number of infrastructure providers to run the service, such as our hosting platform, edge network, and analytics provider. These providers process data only as needed to deliver their services and under their own security and privacy commitments. We do not sell or trade your information.
We may disclose information when required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of ThemeTeller, our users, or the public.
6. Cookies
ThemeTeller does not use advertising cookies. We use only essential, first-party storage that is necessary for the site to work (for example, remembering your recent detections in your own browser). You can clear or block this storage in your browser settings; the detector itself will continue to work, but local history will not persist.
7. Data retention
Operational and security logs are kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, and then discarded or aggregated. Aggregated, non-identifying analytics may be retained for longer to understand product trends.
8. International users
ThemeTeller may be operated from, and processed by infrastructure located in, jurisdictions other than yours. By using the service, you understand that your information may be processed in those jurisdictions, which may have data protection rules different from those in your own.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to certain processing of personal data we hold about you. Because ThemeTeller does not require an account and does not build a profile against your identity, the practical information we have about any individual user is intentionally minimal. If you would like to exercise a right, or you are unsure whether we hold information about you, contact us using the details below and we will respond in line with applicable law.
10. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we process, including transport encryption (HTTPS) and access controls on operational systems. No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the product and its infrastructure evolve. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted on the site where appropriate.
